Last night was pretty interesting. The whole group met at a Cumbaya version of The Square. We tried out the Turtles Head Club, a nice bar on the corner. It turns out that the owner actually lived in Biloxi for a couple years, and he was very excited to learn that we were from Ole Miss.
Today we had our orientation at the University. The campus is gorgeous and very nice. The architecture is really interesting. Each building has a different aesthetic, there is a Japanese pagoda, neo-classical building, oriental art, egyptian statues, etc. They have lots of new restaurants on and around campus. My roommate and I had to walk to and from school today, which is pretty difficult with all of the traffic and people but I think we have it figured out. We start classes tomorrow at nine!
This afternoon Eduardo, our host parents son, gave us a tour around town. He is 27 and is just moving back to Quito after finishing his masters in engineering at Ohio State. It was nice to have a tour from someone young who knows all of the good places to eat and shop. Tomorrow he might take us to the telegrafia, which is like ski lift, that goes up the highest mountaintop in the city. He said it is a killer view. Cant wait!
