june 4-5

Yesterday was our first day of classes. Our professor is really nice and it looks like the class is going to be fairly easy. We got out early at 12 and went to la esquina for lunch. La esquina is a really nice shopping center with tons of restaurants. We ate italian yesterday and mexican today. Today at la esquina we met a lady that went to Ole Miss for her masters in education and she know Andy Mullins well. She's lived in Quito for three years now. Her and her husband teach English at an international high school. It was nice to meet someone from the States! Our family had a barbecue at their house yesterday. None of the people there spoke English so it was a bit awkward for us, but the food was delicious. All of the meat was imported from Venezuela. We had a ton of different sausage and steak with chimichura sauce. Last night, our host brother, who I have been calling Eduardo for the past three days when really his name is Juan (so embarassing!) invited some of his friends over and they came out with our group. It was nice to have people with us who could translate.  These are pictures of the campus!
